Fresh doubts
have been cast on the claims by the President of Chad, Idris Deby that Boko
Haram has a new leader who has taken over from Ababakar Shekau who he said has
been killed. President Deby gave the name of the new leader as Mahamat Daoud.
Though the
once very vocal Abuhakar Shekau has been silent since March when an audio
recording was released by Boko Haram where it pledged loyalty to IS, not much
facts is in public domain on whether his is alive or dead.
Now, a
journalist who has reported extensively on the activities of Boko Haram, Ahmed
Salkida, says that Shekau is still alive.
“Idris Deby
is wrong now as before when he deceived former President Jonathan in phantom
negotiation. Shekau is alive and leads ISWAP or BH.” Mr. Salkida posted.
President
Deby in his statement on Tuesday, August 11, said the new leader, Mahamat Daoud
is open for negotiation.
Whether or
not Shakau is alive, the recent move of the Chadian leader is consistent with
his previous claim to be negotiating a ceasefire deal with the Boko Haram
terrorists which turned out to be false and a huge national embarrassment
during the government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan
